So many press clippings will describe an author as the next Dean Koontz. I've heard it and read it so many times that the statement has no validity left...until now. McGrew has identity, he has his own stature, his own unique spin on the most ordinary of things. However in terms of sheer delight and diverse story weaving, McGrew is very much like Dean Koontz. He has the rarest of abilities to delve into so many aspects of a story, to really touch just about any genre in some way, using those assets to his advantage. With "Night Terror" and "The Darkening" he used that trait, and performed the service well. With "In Shadows" he takes that same thought provoking chemistry and turns it into another winning formula.
